Academic Coaching Services was instrumental in crafting my college application strategy. Mr. Coakley’s guidance ensured I utilized my limited time efficiently and effectively. Starting the summer after my sophomore year, we focused on foundations of standardized test preparation and essential reading. Countless practice tests later, I felt confident and extremely well-prepared to take both the SAT and ACT, and I scored well, too! During junior year, we began the college admissions process by building a framework of anecdotes that would then be used to craft personal mission statements and admission essays. Mr. C also suggested I attend a pre-college program to solidify the thought of performing as my career path, and he helped me research, apply, and gain admission to the Carnegie Mellon Pre-College program. That experience certainly did solidify performing as my chosen career but also showed me that I needed to practice my craft that much more in order to gain admission to the schools that could propel my professional career. During senior year, Mr. C helped me revise my college admission essays until they were a soulful and accurate representation of who I was at the time and create a compelling academic resume. He also helped me plan my auditions by not only reminding me of dates and travel plans but also by even renting a recording studio so I could have accompaniment tracks to practice and use at my auditions. He thinks of everything! With his help, I was accepted to many of the schools on my list, and I’m now a proud alum of the University of Cincinnati College - Conservatory of Music and am enjoying the start of my professional acting career, having just completed my first international tour! I look back fondly at my time under his tutelage, knowing that his mentorship challenged me to grow as a student and as an artist.
